Hey there! I'm Xin Rou and welcome to my space! I'm 18 and graduated high school last year. Knowing already what I want to do with my life, I enrolled myself in IACT College under the Diploma in Broadcasting and Film programme and it is currently my third semester here. I've always enjoyed taking pictures of "aesthetics" such as my excessive collection of stationeries, pretty desserts, and occasionally the sky. I was really excited to be enrolled in this subject, and I thought taking photographs were easy, but boy, was I wrong.
For our first assignment, we were required to shoot the same subjects with different ISO and Shutter Speed readings. What sounds like an easy task to execute was actually a challenge because we were required to shoot something that was 'interesting'. While several ideas ran through my mind, I struggled to decide which would be the most interesting one. While I was out completing another assignment, it coincidentally gave me the opportunity to shoot this. While my friends were having fun after we completed our work, then came the idea to use the motion of the balls to convey different Shutter Speed readings.
I've always enjoyed taking pictures of people, capturing the moment of their laughter and smiles. Taking pictures of people was easy, but applying the concept and a theme to attract audiences was another story. I chose a darker theme for my photographs, portraying the insecurities of a girl when alone in her bathroom, looking in the mirror. Insecurities are scary, and they eat you up, affecting the way you think. In this picture, it seems like the model is fighting her own battle, struggling to win against her insecurities. Her surroundings are dark, which represents the negativity as she's enveloped by self-doubt.
Shooting a product for an advertisement may seem easy, but making it attractive to audiences was another thing. Looking at the title, I couldn't think of anything that was 'conceptual' enough for my product. After searching online several times, the idea of conceptual product was still hazy to me, so I decided to went with whatever idea that I had. In this photo, I wanted to convey the message that a Fitbit being a health fitness watch, could help us live a healthier life. And what more could we do in life that was healthier than exercising? Though some people swim as a form of entertainment, but swimming is actually known to be one of the best exercises out there. And with this health and fitness watch that was water resistant, you could track your calories burned while swimming and check the time underwater!
