Hi! I’m Daniel Leo, and I'm currently doing my diploma in Mass Communication at IACT College. I've always expressed myself creatively in the form of writing and music, and photography as a form of creative expression is something relatively unfamiliar to me. Over the course of the past few months, I see that photography to me is visual poetry. As a writer, I may be limited by the words I use to express myself, but with photography, there are so many elements that can be used to tell a story or convey an emotion. Right here are some of my stories and emotions from my experience during the MCO, all captured through the art of photography.
Uncertainty
When the movement control order was first put in place, there were a lot of questions running through my mind. So much was now clouded by uncertainty and fear. Once in that place, it’s hard to get out and you feel helpless and alone. It felt like all I could do was sit, watch and hope that things will eventually get better.
An outlet
In a time of distress, I turned to the one thing I knew I could rely on, which was music. It has served me as an escape in the past and it did just that in this troubling period of time. Putting my thoughts to paper and singing my heart out has really helped me in keeping myself occupied and making isolation a little less quiet and lonely.
Home is not that bad after all
One thing I'm thankful for after being cooped up at home for months was the company of my family. I’ve been spending lots of time talking to my mother, following her around the house and disturbing her as she was doing her chores. Just being able to spend more time with my loved ones at home eventually became a blessing in disguise amidst all that was going on.
Thank you for looking through my exhibit! I've had lots of fun exploring the world of photography and it's many aspects. There's still much room to grow and improve and I'm excited to venture further into this whole new world.
