Dephyn Chew

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening & Good Night!

Welcome to my blog, I'm so glad you clicked in. Now, sit back, relax and happy reading :)

Just a little 'get to know me' session. My name is Dephyn Chew, I'm 20-years-old during the year 2020. I'm a student in IACT College taking my Diploma in Mass Communication from 2020-2022. My passion is dancing, and sometimes I sing too. I'm the baby in the family with 2 older brothers who are 7 & 8 years older than me.

Photography has been part of my life for the longest time but I never thought of being behind the camera, holding the camera. I was always the one to be in front of the camera to model. When I heard that my course was going to have photography as a subject, I was genuinely excited as I get to learn the proper way of being behind the camera and capturing sights from a photographer's point of view.

Camera: Canon EOS 80D

Camera Lens: Sigma 17mm-50mm 2.8

Editing Software: Adobe Lightroom Classic & Adobe Photoshop 2020

Breast Cancer Awareness

This photo was taken during the October Breast Cancer Awareness month. I joined the pink photography competition that Pantai Hospital hosted for us. I got my best friend, Emily Cheah to be my model while I place balloons around her to represent the pink shades. The challenge for me for this photo was to control the focus on her face instead of her hand, it took a few shots but we manage to get the shot we really like.

Advertising - Buttery Flakes

This photo was taken for my 3rd assignment as we were required to do advertising with photography. I decided to advertise a product that my family and I are selling which is a jar of delicious peanut butter. The requirements of this assignment was also to create posters for the advertising photos we took, so this is one of my posters that I took and edited as inspired from Pinterest with the hand model being my lovely mother.

Due to the pandemic, I was not able to go out to shoot in a studio. This photo was taken in my house kitchen with a aesthetic brown wooden table and a studio light that I borrowed from my brother.

Trapped

Portraiture had never been my cup of tea. Due to our 3rd assignment having the topic of Portraiture, I had to step out of my comfort zone and get my creative thinking cap on think of a emotion I can focus on and to execute it with a story behind it.

I chose my emotion to be 'Trapped' because I've experience the feeling of being trapped in my own feelings, stress and sorrows. It's hard to overcome when you feel trapped but with time, relaxation and some people, you'll get out eventually. This photo of my best friend, Emily Cheah, was definitely a challenge for me because I had to work with the reflection of light and to make sure to get the best lighting.

You've reach the end, I hope you enjoyed it.

Don't forget to take a look at more photos that I took, in my portfolio below :)
