Kavitha Supramaniam

Well, hello there and welcome to our photography exhibition! My name is Kavitha, and you’re about to see five of my best photos throughout this semester. But before that, let me tell you about myself. I am 21 years old, currently pursuing a diploma in mass communications and when I am not doing assignments, I spend my free time learning languages (🇸🇪🇩🇰🇳🇴) and watching skincare videos on YouTube.

Before this class, I had a medium-sized interest in photography. I admired the works of concerts photographers — Ryan Chang is my fave — as I loved seeing the vibrant energy that is captured at concerts and the great memories they harken back to.

A good photo captures your attention and makes you more observant of what surrounds you. If it is memorable enough, it can take you back to the feelings and sounds of the moment. These reasons are why gritty details such as compositions, lighting, colour schemes and planning are all crucial in order to take a good photo; and what I’ve learnt in this class.

Look At This Photograph

Books about Sweden, planners and music; these are a few of my favourite things! I never realised how much of a difference flat-lays added to photos. It looks easy on Instagram, but in my experience, it takes a bit of planning and composition work before you choose something you like.

Want You To See All Of The Lines

Lines are everywhere, but this photo – to me – emphasises how many elements of photography there are in our daily life. Before entering the photography class, I hadn’t thought much of these elements. Still, nowadays when I look at an object or even take a photo with my phone, I do see how much of it affects a picture. The more you know, kids.

Icy Grl

I was extra nervous about this assignment, but it was the most fun I had. Waking up to do my sister’s makeup, choosing outfits and planning angles was a lot to think of but I am happy with how they turned out. This is my personal favourite because of the choice of using a really stark, icy colour like blue on lips (which is not the most conventional). It reminds me of 90s makeup looks with the frosted elements and hoop earrings.

Take A Plunge

I mention in the previous photo that I had the most fun, this assignment was the second most fun. Getting both elements of both light and water right was a bit of a challenge but it turned out well in the end. I made the decision to use water for this photo because the product itself has cooling properties to help soothe your skin when you apply it.

Fun In The Sun

As the pandemic continues, it is not only important to wear face masks when going out but it is also important to take care of our skin. Because wearing face masks for long hours heightens our skin’s sensitivity and causes ‘maskne’, this is where my saving grace came in! The mask helped get my skin in check, balanced oil production and told my breakouts to sit down.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog! You can check out my portfolio and see more over here.
