ANDREA ADAM ZECUBI

ree

Hey there! I'm Andrea Adam Zecubi. I was born on October 15th 2001, making me 18 years old at the time of publishing this blog. I am half Malaysian and half Italian. My mother is Malaysian, and my father is Italian. It's quite an interesting experience, growing up with two completely different cultures, but I think I wouldn't have been the person i am today if it weren't for having both of my parents impart their knowledge onto me.

I am currently a student in IACT College. I'm taking my Diploma in Mass Communication, and I'm in my third semester as of right now. I see photography as an art form in which the beauty of the shot/video is depicted by the person behind the camera. Personally, I've always wanted to delve into the hobby of photography. The photography class this semester has helped me further explore my interest in photography, even if all the classes were held online. One thing I would say that personally has held me back is a lack of gear. I've never owned a proper camera in my life, which personally feels like a constraint to me when it comes to getting into the hobby of photography. However, despite this, I make do with what I have. I am a big fan of taking photos to ensure the memories of an event in my life exist further than just the confines of my head. Having an actual photo of an event will allow me to revisit said event. That's one of the beautiful things about photography, in my opinion. Capturing a fleeting moment, or a feeling, and letting you store that forever ( assuming where the picture is stored survives).

Below are the shot im most fond of that I've taken for this semester, they might not be of the best quality as they were taken on a mid range Android smartphone, but it was a fun challenge trying to make it work anyways.

Purple Haze

While I am aware that some people may view this as a very basic image, I personally am quite fond of it. The way I shot this image, I wanted to show the way the lamp's light reflecting onto the mouse. I wanted the glow of the lamp, and the lamp itself to be in the frame, yet I didn't want it to be the focal point of the image. I'm also just very fond of the colour purple. So while this image in particular isn't exactly the most groundbreaking, outstanding image, I do like the way the colours and lighting bounces across the frame. I configured my phone to set a fairly low ISO setting, paired alongside a fairly fast shutter speed.

Music, something important to your's truly.

ree

Music is something I hold very dearly to myself. I'm almost constantly listening to something in my daily life. As long as i can listen to music, I will. I've been very passionate about the music i listen to since i was about 14. Naturally, this led to me wanting to learn how to play music. An instrument specifically.

I've been learning how to play the guitar on and off ever since the age of 15. I can't lie and say I'm very good at it. However, to me I find enjoyment in the fact that I at least make an attempt at it. While I mostly make instrumentals in FL studio nowadays, I still pick up my guitar once in awhile and play it. And I still tell myself i'll get good at it. Eventually.

Alright, that's enough about my musical "ambitions." As to how I took these photos, I practiced the angles by having my lovely brother sit and hold the guitar while i set up a tripod. After ensuring the angles were right, i set a self timer and got into position for the photo, adjusting it for the second photo. What i like about these photos is the way the light illuminates the room, causing interesting shadows across the room due to the direction of the light source.

Sneakers, a love-hate relationship.

The reason the caption is titled a love hate relationship with sneakers is because I've always been very passionate about sneakers yet find myself lacking the funds required to get into the hobby itself, meaning I can essentially watch from the sidelines as the sneakers I really covet get worn. However, this has also led to me being able to find sneakers I fancy a lot through bargain hunting, meaning that I can find sneakers I like that are not particularly mainstream among sneaker-heads for much more reasonable prices as compared to the prices for what is currently trending.

So for these two shots, I tried to emulate the New Balance advertising without ripping it off too much. I tried to incorporate the ideas of their ad slogans as best as I could while staying original. Due to not having a light box at home, i tried my best to work around that limitation. For the first image, i used a clothes cabinet propped up against a white wall to try and create the imagery of two different white backgrounds. Due to the cabinet not extending the full length of the frame, I blurred the edge out to create the illusion that the cabinet still extended past the frame. For the second image, I used the gray textured carpet in my room to put the shoe against. I proceeded to take a picture from an angle directly above the shoe. I then proceeded to edit out the shadow from the shoe, while not completely removing it completely as to not make it seem as if its floating on the background. Lastly, for both images, I made sure to find a similar looking font to nail the feel of a New Balance ad. I even edited in the New Balance logo, just to complete it.

Last but not least...

The file above is where you will find my portfolio, showing all of the assignment photos that I have taken this semester. Feel free to check it out, hopefully you'll like it. If you've come this far to the end of my blog, I hope you enjoyed what you've read. That's pretty much it from me, I hope you have a good day. Adam Zecubi, signing off.
